Nature photography from Malta and Beyond
Birds
Wild birds are not always the most accommodating when it comes to photography, but when you find an obliging subject in nature, the satisfaction is guaranteed!
Landscape
Landscape photography includes shots depicting land, sea and other natural or man-made subjects often presented in a pleasing composition.
Macro
Macro is the art of photographing a subject in close proximity, often exposing the intricate details of the subject.
The Flighty Ones
Getting to know birds up close is, for me, one of the most satisfying ways to spend your free time. Its humbling at the same time. When you see a 5 gram individual crossing a whole continent to ensure its own survival is just mesmerising. What makes it even amazing is their adaptability to adjust to adverse conditions, one of which is human intervention. Sometimes, you observe a species and wonder what on earth made them evolve in such a way. Then they perch on some branch and vanish just like magic. Then you understand how the plumage, that you were questioning, fits like a puzzle when the species is in its own environment.
The Devil in the Detail
As they say, the devil is in the detail. That’s what Macro photography is all about for me. Occasionally, I like to switch the usual long telephoto lens to a small macro lens and go out and about in nature, looking for the smallest things to photograph. Sometimes its an insect, and sometimes a blooming flower. Macro photography is fun and also as you take your photographs, you learn quite a lot too! Two-fold fun!
The Beauty of Malta
Throughout the years, Malta is becoming more of an overpopulated Metropolis rather than the Mediterranean island one could be used to. However, in some small unspoilt pockets of undisturbed or minimally disturbed nature, one can unravel what a Mediterranean island is all about. With rich history and unique geographical location, Malta has got more than meets the eye!
From historical buildings to labyrinthian valleys, Malta can offer a unique experience for those that are willing to keep their eyes and minds open to what nature has to offer. Although Malta does not have big mammals or big resident birds, it can offer a different perspective like endemic species and nowhere to be found sea/landscapes.
